Form and Function in Insects and Related Arthropods

In the lecture and in the laboratory, students are engaged in comparative study of their external and internal morphological features of insects and related arthropods and gain an understanding of the importance of these features to phylogeny, classification and physiology. In the lab, students develop the ability to prepare specimens for observation of these features and to produce accurate, high quality biological illustrations.

Morphological Exposition. Students registered for credit for ENTM 6440 produce results of an independent study on comparative morphology of an insect or morphological system of the student's choice. This will consist of narrative descriptions or explanations, illustrations and references to literature or internet resources, preferably in electronic format.
