ENTM 3040, GENERAL ENTOMOLOGY

3 hours credit: 4 credits; Lecture 3; Lab 2; Prerequisite BI 1030; Fall

Introduction to Insect Diversity and Biology

From the lecture, students learn major features of the classification and biology of insects and some related arthropods, as well as important aspects of their interactions among each other and among other organisms, including humans. In the lab, students increase their "biological sophistication" by learning to recognize important external structural components of the insect body, the major insect natural groups, and 66 insect families. An insect collection consisting of 66 adult insects, correctly preserved and labeled and correctly identified to order and family is required. Instructions and assistance will be provided in the lab.
