200 points: Final Examination [see final exam schedule]
50 points: highest 10 of at least 15, 5 point lecture quizes

370 possible total points

Students should take examinations and quizes seriously. Regular class attendance will help assure adequate scores on quizzes and exams. There will be no makeup quizes. At least 15 quizes will be offered during the semester allowing students leeway to miss one or two quizes, for valid reasons, without negatively impacting the final grade. The written and classroom presentations on the assigned insect are due when the assigned insect is covered in class. Students who are absent on the day of their presentation will be required to present a valid excuse to be allowed to make the presentation on an alternative day.

Rules. The instructor intends to follow the rules regarding "Faculty Responsibilities in the Instructional Program," "Academic Regulations," and "Class Attendance" outlined in the Tiger Cub. The "Code of Student Discipline" (Tiger Cub, p. 79-82) will also be enforced. Arrangements to make up missed examinations or work due to excused absences must be initiated by the student. Make-up examinations may not be of the same format as regularly scheduled examinations. Seating in this class is enforced by assignment. Students who are not in their proper seats by 15 minutes after the beginning of class, or who leave before the end of class, will be considered absent. Absences are excused for the following reasons: a. Illness of the student or serious illness of a member of the student immediate family. A note from the attending physician or AU Infirmary is required. b. The death of a member of the student immediate family. A printed obituary or funeral notice is required. c. Trips for members of the student organizations sponsored by an academic unit, trips for University classes, and trips for participation in intercollegiate athletic events. Normal notification from appropriate University personnel to document the student participation in such activities or trips is required. d. Subpoena for court appearance. Written documentation may be required. e. Any other reason the instructor deems appropriate. Students with demonstrated need to take the final examination before the scheduled date must present a written request from his or her dean requesting an early examination. Students who require special assistance should discuss their needs at the beginning of the semester. Bring a memo from the Office of the Program for Students with Disabilities. If students do not have a memo, they should schedule an appointment with a member of the professional staff in that office (1244 Haley Center, 844-2096).
