tahdziu is a mayan pueblito in the south of the yucatan where our studio worked for two weeks building mayan huts. we stayed in luxury huts in a ranch owned by the univerisity outside of tahdziu and ate like kings as a team of mayan women cooked fresh meals everyday. the methods of construction employ natural resources of limestone, palms, and wood. the area was very interesting because by american standards, these people are living below the poverty level. however, the people all seem very content, are hard workers, most are bilingual, and they eat well. additionally in each of these huts, there are stereo systems, and plenty of televisions and satellites. the children were very intrigued by all the cameras, and I showed them how to use my camera and lent it to them for a day. my french friend, nolwenn, took lots of nice photos, as well as some photos of the construction process, which neglected. we took a day trip to the nearby town of peto, there are not many pictures, as the trip was used mostly for studying the interior architecture of the mexican cantina. |
