Attachments: Mime.822 (3970 bytes) [Save As] Department of Mathematics Faculty, There are several prestigious faculty awards will be made in the near future that have monetary amounts associated with them. I list them below and I seek nominations. 1. The Jack Brown Endowed Faculty Award. There is a $2,000 award for two years to a faculty member in Mathematics and Statistics who must "personify Dr. Jack B. Brown and demonstrate a strong commitment to students and the provision of excellence in teaching and research." The funds may be used as salary support, for travel, for equipment, etc. The selection committee is comprised of the department chair, the department GPO and the chair of the Undergraduate Studies Committee (myself, Paul Schmidt and Ash Abebe.) I need nominations by April 1. 2. The Don Logan Chair of Mathematics. The chair was endowed with $1,000,000 and the amount currently available is $25,000 and the candidate will hold the distinction of the chair for five years. The candidate must “possess academic leadership in the pursuit of excellence in teaching (undergraduate and graduate), research, and university and professional service (including outreach activities) within the department with each category weighed equally.” The Logan Chair will be selected by a committee appointed by the Dean of the College. We have a longer time frame on this one; but I’d like you to consider possible nominations by April 15. -Michel
