Introduction

You have just watched the feature film, Paris je t’aime.  Now, you and your classmates will learn more about Paris and the locations in the film.  This is your chance to see what Paris has to offer, so you will create a type of “scrapbook” to share with your classmates to help you better understand the city of Paris.

Task

  1. Watch the film, Paris je t’aime.  If you are absent or were not able to watch all sections of the film shown in class, there will be an opportunity to see this again outside of class time (see your teacher for dates/times).  You should write a critique of the film (give your opinion of it) of at least 1 page.
  2. You will be assigned 3 “areas” of Paris for your research.  For each area, you must research the following information for your “scrapbook.”
    1. Description of site/neighborhood
    2. Location and arrondissement
    3. Historical importance
    4. Today’s importance
    5. Important photos or artwork associated with this site
  3. Create a scrapbook to share with your class.  The scrapbook should include 11 pages.
    1. Page 1 – Introduction, including your name.  This page should also include a map of Paris with your researched sites labeled.
    2. Page 2-4 – Site #1 including photos
    3. Page 5-7 – Site #2 including photos
    4. Page 8-10 – Site #3 including photos
    5. Page 11 – Reflections, a one page summary of your experience with Paris.  What would you like to visit?  Where would you go? Etc.
    6. Additional page – resources and bibliography of sites used to gather your information
  4. Follow the grading rubric located in “Evaluations” for future description of your responsibility for the project.
  5. Finally, pretend that you are with your family in Paris.  Write a composition containing the following information and written in the passé composé:
    1. When/where you arrived
    2. 3 activities or places you visited
    3. 3 activities or places your parents visited
    4. 3 activities or places you and your family visited together
    5. Day you left / where you returned home to

Resources

On the internet there are many sites to help you locate tourist information about Paris and find out what the city has to offer. Here is a listing of some sites that you might find useful.

You may also use search engines, such as Google, Yahoo or Lycos, to find additional information or other places of interest that you may think of on your own. Keep a written note of all of the web sites that you use so that you can list them in your bibliography.  To document a website, you must include the following information:

1.    website name and address

2.    date and time you visited the website

3.    author name of article (if there is not an author’s name, this indicates that it may not be a reliable source!)
