Student Exchange Program - Costa Rica

What

A two-week exchange program for graduate-level students (M.Ed., Ed.S. or equivalent) from Universidad Nacional in Heredia, Costa Rica and Auburn University, Auburn, AL.

 
Who

 - Up to five Master’s level students working on Spanish as a Second Language (SSL) degrees at Universidad Nacional (UNA) in Costa Rica

 - Up to five Auburn University students working on advanced degrees (M.Ed. or Ed.S.) in Spanish as a Second Language (SSL)

-All candidates must have an interest in teaching and curriculum development as well as SSL research.

 
When

- January 18th through February 1st, 2011 – Costa Rican students visit Auburn

 - July 17th through July 31st, 2011 – Auburn students visit Costa Rica

 
Costs

 - Students from UNA register for a Professional Development course at UNA.

 - Auburn students register for a Practicum in Foreign Language Education at AU.

 - All students pay their own airfare and personal expenses.

 - Room and board is provided by the host families.

 
Objectives    UNA students will have opportunities to:
  1. Observe methodology for teaching modern languages in a variety of school settings,

  2. Observe family life as a guest in the home of an Auburn faculty member or a member of the community,

  3. Become familiar with Auburn, the surrounding areas and their historic sites, and

  4. Investigate a project related to a specific topic of their choice.

   AU students will have opportunities to:
  1. Observe methodology for teaching modern languages in a variety of school settings,

  2. Observe family life as a guest in the home of a family in Heredia, Costa Rica,

  3. Become familiar with Heredia and other selected sites, and

  4. Investigate a project related to a specific topic, such as immigration.
