UPC COMMITTEESFilms The Films Committee programs a wide variety of free movies for Auburn students. Past films include: Dreamgirls, Borat, Children of Men, Letters from Iwo Jima, Casino Royale, Little Miss Sunshine, Babel, The DaVinci Code, Cars, The Breakup, and an Oscar nominee series. Films also shows outdoor movies, drive-in movies, and organizes dinner and a movie. Fine Arts Fine Arts is responsible for programming a variety of events. Past events include Bela Fleck, Maya Angelou, Jazzfest, Dracula, Chinese Acrobats, Recycled Percussion, Dinner and Dancing, photography workshops, and dance workshops. Major Entertainment The Major Entertainment Committee is responsible for bringing high profile events to Auburn University. The committee has featured Dierks Bentley, Ludacris, 311, Beach Boys, Live, MTV Campus Invasion featuring Fabolous and Talib Kweli, MTV Tailgate Tour featuring Ying-Yang Twins and the Exies, Nappy Roots, Pat McGee Band, Sugar Ray, Switchfoot, Third Eye Blind, Three Doors Down, and Tonic. Research & Evaluation Research and Evaluation is responsible for compiling student feedback during UPC events and presenting their findings to the executive council in order to better serve the student interests of Auburn University. Public Relations Public Relations helps promote UPC events by contacting local radio stations and newspapers, as well as sending press releases to campus departments and organizations. This committee is also responsible for the UPC brochures and UPConnection. Publicity Publicity assists other committees in publicizing UPC events. This committee makes banners, posters and table tents, paints the windows at the War Eagle Cafeteria, and updates the UPC A-Frames located around campus. This committee develops and distributes the UPC calendar every semester detailing scheduled activities. Speakers and Comedians This committee plans events such as comedians, distinguished lecturers, and educational programs. In the past, the committee has featured personalities such as Mikhail Gorbachev, Godfrey, Lewis Black, Demetri Martin, Bruce Bruce, Mitch Hedburg, Dr. Ruth, Jon Stewart, Hank Aaron, Andy Dick, Chappelle, Jennifer Worick, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Special Projects The Special Projects Committee programs a wide variety of activities such as small bands, workshops, and multi-cultural events. Special Projects has sponsored events such as Battle of the Bands, Third Day, cooking workshops, educational workshops, dance competitions, IAVA panel, Food For Thought Series, and holiday events. Technical Productions Technical Productions is responsible for completing the necessary technical preparation for UPC events. Tech assists other committees with the production of their events. No previous technical experience is needed to join this committee. Tiger Nights This committee is responsible for planning Auburn's late-night programming events known as Tiger Nights. This event happens once per semester and features inflatable games, a main stage concert, and free food. Tiger Nights also offers carnival-like events such as wax hands, cotton candy, and interactive games. Past concerts during this event have included Matt Wertz, Yonder Mountain String Band, Diamond Rio, the Dave Matthews Cover Band, Better Than Ezra, Nickel Creek, Edwin McCain, Ryan Cabrera, and The Wailers. Volunteers The Volunteers Committee is responsible for overseeing all UPC volunteers, while also providing support to Council. They assist with the Block Party, applications and interviews, leadership training, and committee retention.
