2005 NCWA National Championships

On March 11 and 12, 2005 the NCWA National Championships were held in Dallas, Texas. There were over 50 teams competing in the tournament, with a 32 man brachet format. Six Auburn Wrestlers competed: Trey Hamer at 125, Jeremiah Lamphere at 141, Andrew Kunzel at 149, Anthony White at 174, Austin Rousayne at 184, and Scott Terry at 285. Auburn University ended up placing 18th in the tournament and had one wrestler, Scott Terry, placing 4th and becoming an All-American for the second year in a row.

Scott Terry started off the tournament by defeating Sulzicki from UNH with a strong win of 8-0. In his next match he had a one point loss to Lynch from Catawba College, putting him in the wrestle backs. He then went on to pin his next two opponents which put him in the consolation semi-finals. In his semi-finals match he defeated Black from Cincinatti University 12-3. In his last match, wrestling for third and fourth place, Scott had to wrestle the same wrestler who defeated him the previous day. It was a hard wrestled match but Scott was unable to defeat him and lost 10-5, leaving him with a fourth place finish, and becoming a two-time All-American. All of the other wrestlers did quite well but were unable to place in the top 6. Jeremiah Lamphere won four matches defeating wrestlers from Apprentice, Rensseleaer, Adirondack, and Miami, and made it to the consolation quarter-finals. Austin Rousayne finished the tournament with a 2-2 record, Andrew Kunzel finished with a 1-2 record, and Trey Hamer and Anthony White finished with a 0-2 record. Over all coach Marko Tuokko was quite happy with how his wrestlers finished and pleased with their performances. The team will be returning all 6 wrestlers next year and hope to add many new wrestlers to the team.
