Zach is a sophomore from Austin, Texas studying finance. He joined the team at the beginning of his freshman year. Having done a few triathlons in elementary school he decided to try the sport again. After seeing a huge improvement from year one on the team he hopes to set a PR at nationals. In his free time Zach enjoys golfing. As the president he would like to improve the team from last year and lead the team to another great showing this season.
Meredith is a junior studying journalism at Auburn University from Marietta, Georgia. She joined the team in Spring 2017 with no prior triathlon experience. She competed on her high school’s varsity cross country and track teams while also competing on the swim team. In college she missed being a part of a team and competing, that’s when she found the triathlon team. Since joining the team she has improved considerably, finishing second for the females on the team. Her goal for this year is to see improvement in her time at nationals.
Mack Van Wagnen grew up in Athens, Alabama and came to Auburn to pursue a degree in Electrical Engineering/ Computer. In high school, Mack was an all-state level runner in 4 track events and in cross country. Mack also helped lead an underwater robotics team to international honors. Though not a strong swimmer, Mack excels on the bike and run portions of triathlons and hopes to continue improving throughout his college years.
Jacob is a sophomore on the team studying civil engineering, and he is from Arlington, Virginia. This is his second year on the team as well as competing in the sport. He had previously been a runner with no experience in swimming or biking. Jacob has set a season goal of a 2:15:00 for nationals this year.
Jake Fikse grew up in Smyrna, Georgia. He began racing triathlons at the age of 8, competing in his first Sprint distance triathlon at the age of 13. With an extensive triathlon background, this is his second year as a member of the Auburn University Triathlon Club, and has competed in numerous Sprint and Olympic distance triathlons. This past October he completed his first Half Ironman and hopes to race many more 70.3 races, attempting to qualify for the 70.3 World Championship. When he is not training, Jake enjoys photography, backpacking, and good coffee. He is a junior at Auburn University, majoring in Building Science and will be graduating in 2019.
Lauren is a Freshman from Demopolis, Alabama. She is majoring in biomedical sciences hoping to then continue her education at the Harrison School of Pharmacy. She began competing in triathlons in elementary school and continued in high school where she also participated in several other sports. She joined the team in the Fall of 2017 and is optimistic that she will continue to improve as she now focuses on one sport. Her goal for this season is to continue to see improvement in her times leading up to nationals.
