In 2007, Kyle Joplin and 12 members re-founded Auburn Triathlon and in only two years membership grew to 38 athletes from a broad spectrum of athletic backgrounds and a wide range of athletic skill. Swimmers, cyclists, runners, marching band members, tennis players, Wii sports champions, couch potatoes and many others all find a place in the club. Every person with determination, a love of the outdoors, and a willingness to have fun can excel against the clock, or as a premier southeastern conference or national athlete. Each member can reach their own goals by training and racing with our team-whether their goal is to place first or to complete their first triathlon! Through our athletic efforts we promote a healthy lifestyle among Auburn Triathletes and the Auburn University student body.
The team operates as a university club, with come-as-you-can practices in all three disciplines of a triathlon: swimming, biking, and running. Members of Auburn University Triathlon Team train year-round to perform their best at races. Auburn Triathletes is a USAT sanctioned club, and each year our team competes in the Southeastern Collegiate Triathlon Conference (SECTC) at multiple sanctioned races across the southeast. This past 2010-2011 season, Auburn Triathletes are proud to have sent members to all sanctioned triathlons where the men and women placed first in the conference. The team members do not limit themselves to triathlons but branch out to participate in other endurance races such as duathlons (run, bike, run), marathons, ultra marathons, swim meets, local 5k and 10ks, and bike races.
