2010-2011 Tiger Paws Audition Information
2010-2011 pre-audition clinic and audition dates will be set in January 2011. Auditions
are usually held in April of the spring semester.
College Pre-Audition Clinic
- The clinic is optional, but strongly recommended and open to all interested members. High school juniors who are not yet eligible to tryout but would like to gain audition experience are allowed to participate in the pre-audition clinic only.
- Participants will have instruction and review of the advance technical skills that will be included in the audition dance and or top 30 technical progressions.
- Tips and pointers will be given on what the judges will be looking for.
- Sample sections of the jazz, hip hop and pom sidelines will be taught to participants. This same routine will be taught again in its entirety the day of auditions.
- Participants are NOT judged at the pre-audition clinic.
- Pre-audition clinic registration fee is $25.00. This must be paid in cash.
Audition Process
- There is a $25.00 audition fee. This must be paid in cash. Pre-audition clinic participants audition fee is $15.00.
- Auditions are closed to the public (this includes your family, friends and former Tiger Paws members)
- Videotapes will not be accepted
- An audition dance routine (jazz and hip hop), sideline routine, and technical progressions will be taught to the candidates during the audition clinic. Technical elements included in the dance and progression are: double/triple/quad pirouettes, fouette turns, leg hold turns, grande jete, reverse jete, A La Seconde leap, calypso leap, turning disc, and C-jump. The sideline pom routine will consist of traditional cheer/dance movements.
- The audition dance and sideline routine will be performed in small groups before a panel of judges for the first round of auditions.
- The Top 30 candidates will be announced and proceed to the final round of auditions. Those candidates will be taught two technical progressions.
- The Top 30 will perform the audition dance, and technical progressions before a panel of judges.
- All candidates will be judged in the areas listed below:
- Appearance- pay special attention to your hair and make-up. Judges will also be looking for a toned physique.
- Dance execution and ability- the judges will be looking for precision, coordination, timing, and above average ability.
- Technique- the judges will be looking for proper execution of all technique
- Poise and projection
Audition Attire
- No jewelry, except small post or body piercing of any kind should be worn during auditions and all tattoos should be covered.
- Attire should consist of black boy shorts and full length fitted dance top or leotard. The top should be flattering and can be of any design, fabric or make. The dance top should cover your midriff!
- Dance shoes or dance sneakers
- Hair preferable down, but pulled out of the participant’s face.
Audition Requirements
- Candidates must be enrolled as a full-time Auburn University student for the 2009 spring semester and have a minimum 2.0 cumulative grade point average.
- High school seniors and transfer students may audition if they have been accepted to Auburn for the fall semester 2010.
- Transfer and high school seniors trying out must bring a copy of their official letter of acceptance from Auburn University Registrar’s Office (please make a copy of your letter for us to keep).
- Current Auburn students must bring verification of grade point average from the Auburn University Registrars Office.
- A complete application would include:
- Application form
- Waiver of liability
- GPA verification or letter of acceptance
- Application fee
- Head shot (4x6 or larger, recent photo)
