Audition Information

Auditions 2008: APRIL 25-26

Tiger Paw Auditions will take place on Friday, April 25, 2008-
Saturday, April 26, 2008 at the Auburn University Auxiliary Gym
(located right beside Beard-Eaves Coliseum)


The Tiger Paws will be hosting a College Prep Class:
You do not have to attend the prep class in order to tryout. 
The prep class is optional and open to all interested members. 
Come dressed to dance.
Prep class is geared to dancers that are interested in auditioning for the Auburn University Tiger Paws Dance Team
 Instruction and review of the advance technical skills that will be included in the tryouts.
Tips and pointer of what the judges will be looking for
Sample try-out routine to take home and practice along with a sample score sheet
Registration will be on site the day of the prep class
Prep class cost is $25.00
All prep class participants will receive a discounted tryout fee of $15.00
DATE OF COLLEGE PREP CLASS:
Saturday, April 19th (in the Auxiliary Gym)
Registration beginning at 8:30 am.
Clinic will end at 11:30 am.

4:30 p.m.                       Clinic Starts.  Jazz Routine will be taught first.

Day 2, Saturday, April 26, 2008

9:00 a.m.                       Judges Arrive.  Judges Orientation

10:00 a.m.                     Judging starts.  Candidates will do the Jazz Routine first,
                                                   followed by the Pom/Sideline Routine. 
            1:00 p.m.                       The ~Top 30 are announced.  After announcement, the ~Top 30
                                                   will review technical progressions
            2:30 p.m.                       Judging resumes.  Top ~30 will do:
                                                   1.       Technical progressions
                                                   2.       Jazz Routine
                                                   3.       Pom/Sideline Routine
            7:00 p.m.                      Announcement of the 2008-2009 Tiger Paws at The Eagle in front of
                                                  Beard-Eaves Coliseum.  The new team will meet immediately after
                                                  call-outs in the Auxiliary Gym.
 

2008-2009 Audition Requirements

·        Candidates must be enrolled as a full-time Auburn University student for the Fall Semester, 2008.

·        High School seniors and transfer students may try out if they have been accepted to Auburn for the Fall Semester, 2008.  Those trying out must bring a copy of their official letter of acceptance from the Auburn University Registrar’s Office to tryouts (please make a copy of your letter for us to keep).

·        Auburn University students who try out must be enrolled as a full-time student and have a minimum 2.0 cumulative grade point average.  Verification of GPA status is required from the Auburn University Registrar’s Office or your Dean’s Office.

Audition Process

·        Auditions are closed to the public (this includes your family and friends).

·        Videotapes will not be accepted. 

·        A jazz dance routine, sideline routine, and technical progression will be taught during clinic on Friday, April 25, 2008.  The dance routine will include jazz/technical elements, as well as hip-hop movements. Possible technical elements that could be included in the jazz routine are: right and left pirouettes (double, triple and quad), axels, fouettes, leaps (right and left switch leaps, straddle, and jetes).  The sideline routine will consist of traditional cheer/dance movements.  Pom-poms will be provided for the sideline routine.

·        The jazz routine and the sideline routine will be performed in small groups before the panel of judges for the first round of auditions.

·        The Top ~30 candidates will be announced and proceed to the second round of auditions.  Those candidates will be taught a technical progression.

·        The Top ~30 will perform the jazz dance, sideline routine and progressions in front of the panel of judges. 

Audition Attire

·        No jewelry or body piercing of any kind should be worn during auditions.

·        Attire should consist of full length jazz pants and a fitted dance top.  Dance tops, jazz shoes and dance pants may be worn in any color.  The dance top should be figure flattering and can be of any design, fabric, or make.  The dance top should not show your midriff. 

·        Black soled tennis shoes are not permitted.

Important Information

·        16 members will be selected for the 2008-2009 Tiger Paws Dance Team. 

·        All candidates will be judged in the areas listed below.

1.  Appearance.  Pay special attention to your hair and make-up.  The judges will also be looking for a toned physique. 

2.  Dance execution and ability.  The judges will be looking for strength and precision, coordination, timing, and general ability.

3.  Technique.  The judges will be looking for proper execution of turns and leaps, etc. 

4.  Poise and projection.

·        There is a $25 audition fee.  This must be paid in cash.  Prep class students will only have a $15.00 audition fee

·        The 2008-2009 Tiger Paws Dance Team will have a short meeting at the end of auditions. 

·        Other:  Tiger Paws practice Monday-Thursday and work out several days per week at a local gym. 

·        Summer Schedule: Rehearsals are held through out the summer.  We also perform at Camp War Eagle, may attend UDA Collegiate Dance Camp and will sign autographs at Fan Day prior to the start of Fall Semester classes. 

·        Fall Schedule: Tiger Paws participate in Pep Rallies, Soccer Games, Volleyball Games, All Home Football Games and various other campus events during the fall.   Some games and events fall during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

·        Winter/Spring: Tiger Paws participate in all Home Men’s and Women’s Basketball games, the A-Day Football Game and various other campus events in the Winter/Spring.   Some games and events fall over the Christmas and Spring Break holidays.
