REFERENDUM VOTE

On February 12th, you will have the opportunity to voice your support for building and funding a new recreation and wellness center for our campus by voting “yes” in our student referendum. Voting will be conducted in conjunction with SGA Elections and will take place online through AU Access.

WHAT WILL THE FEE BE FOR AUBURN STUDENTS?
Proposed Fee Structure
- Fall 2009- Summer 2010- $50.00 per semester
- Fall 2010- Summer 2011- $100.00 per semester
- Fall 2011- Summer 2012- $150.00 per semester
- Fall 2012-Summer 2013- $200.00 per semester
- $200.00 per semester thereafter

IS THIS A COMPARABLE FEE FOR RECREATION AND WELLNESS CENTERS AT OTHER UNIVERSITIES?
Yes. Our current fee – $7.50 per semester – is reflected in the size and condition of our current student act. Auburn has the lowest fee in the SEC by far, and our peers’ fees range anywhere from $75 – $180.

HOW DO I PAY FOR THE FEE?
The fee will be included in your tuition. Full-tuition scholarships will cover the fee.

HOW DOES THIS FEE COMPARE WITH PRIVATE GYMS?
Students pay an average of about $50 per month at private gyms. This totals $600 a year and does not include many of the amenities and programs that our new facility will offer.

WHY SHOULD I VOTE YES?
The administration wants to hear from the students that we need a new recreation and wellness center and are willing to fund it. A positive outcome in the referendum will continue to move this project forward so that we may have this convenient, spacious, state of the art facility as soon as possible.
