What's your favorite Auburn tradition & why?
I love tailgating! It's so much fun
to have all of the alumni, current students, and future tigers come
together in Auburn spirit. All the free food is pretty great too!
- Abby Jones, 2008 Camp Counselor |

At the end of my freshman year I learned of an Auburn
tradition that is unique to students, and it immediately became my
favorite. Each summer, the SGA organizes a day for any interested
student to join them in painting the tiger paws on Donahue, all the
way from the intersection of College Street to the stadium. It is
so awesome to spend time with SGA officers, CWE Counselors, and many
other students while painting big, orange tiger paws on the street
that will lead many Tiger fans to the stadium all year long! It is
also fun to drive over them every day and think to yourself, "Hey-
I painted this!" - Lesley Ireland, 2008 Camp Counselor |
Rolling Toomer's Corner.... is there
any question? What better way to celebrate Auburn dominance than
throwing toilet paper into a tree? - Levi Rogers, 2008 Camp Counselor |

If you could give one piece of advice to an incoming freshman, what would
it be?
|
|
If I was to give an incoming freshman one piece of advice,
I would tell them to enjoy their time at Auburn. While attending Auburn
you will probably get stressed out, meet people that you don't agree
with, or just feel like you don't belong, but you have to remember
to embrace each moment and have fun. It is these moments that when
you are at your worst that make you a stronger person and mature you
as an individual. Try not to rush through because once you finally
do, you will probably wish that you still had time left at Auburn.
- Sam Poteat, 2008 Camp Counselor |
Advice for freshman- enjoy every minute
of your time at auburn. I know its cliché but seriously,
the time flies!! Even times when you get angry or upset about something,
really try to find the positive in the situation and make the best
of everything. - Abbe Chesser, 2008 Camp Counselor |
|
|
|
Go to class! It may not seem like a big deal, but I
believe it is the key to succeeding at Auburn. Even if they do not
take attendance, going to class will drastically reduce the amount
of personal time you have to commit to do well in a class. - Justin
Neisler, 2008 Camp Counselor |
Live it up! Take advantage of any
opportunity you get because you never know when if ever it will
come back again. These are some of the best years of your life so
do what you want and never let anything stop you from living your
dreams. - Jeremy Walker, 2008 Camp Counselor |
|
|
If I could give any advice to an incoming
freshman, it would be to get to know your professors. I know that
the word “professor” itself is rather intimidating,
but if it weren’t for my relationships that I built with the
caring staff at Auburn, I never would have made it through my month
in the hospital and all of the trials I faced my first semester
at Auburn. They care about you and want to help you. Take advantage
of office hours and introduce yourself to your teacher for a familiar
face added to your emails. - Lauren Jones, 2008 Camp Counselor |
Don't underestimate the cost of books!
Also the freshman fifteen isn't that big of a deal, it happens to
everyone!! - Felicity Wood, 2008 Camp Counselor |
|
|
I would say embrace Auburn. Get involved
and pour your heart into everything that you do. You make your experience
here, and it is not difficult to make it the most amazing experience
of your life. Become a part of the Auburn family and try to better
it and in the end you will end up a better person. - John Godwin,
2008 Camp Counselor |
How has your life been impacted by serving Auburn University
as a Camp Counselor?
|
Being a camp counselor is an awesome way to learn
a lot about Auburn. This includes things about academics and other
facts about campus. Knowing the history gives such a deeper appreciation
of Auburn and makes me more proud to be a part of Auburn. It really
motivates me to do well at Auburn and to appreciate the opportunity
to be here. I’ve also met a lot of people who will be great
friends long after camp is over. I highly recommend being a camp
counselor. - Matt Nelson, 2008 Camp Counselor |
|
|
This opportunity has definitely brought
me closer to my school, but mostly it has taught me some tools that
I just don't think I could have learned if not for having the chance
to be a Camp Counselor. - Grayson Garner, 2008 Camp Counselor |
Where is your favorite place to study on campus?
The library truly is the most popular
place to study or hang out on campus. There are computers everywhere
that you can use or laptops you can check out if you don't want
to be tied to a desktop. You can also checkout headphones if you
want to listen to some music online while you study. There are even
group study rooms so that you can get your own personal room to
get a project done. You can hang out in the heavy traffic areas
to see who all is in the library with you or find your own secluded
place when you really have to study. - Caleb Rotton, 2008 Camp Counselor |
|
|
My favorite place to study on campus
is anywhere outside in the spring and early fall. Campus is so beautiful
and busy during this time of the year and it's so much fun to just
lay out in the sun and read or study outside. - Catherine Araszkiewicz,
2008 Camp Counselor |
I love studying on the back porch
of Cater Hall during the middle of the afternoon. Especially during
the spring and fall, the upper quad is one of the most beautiful
places on campus. It's such a relaxing place to study. - Anna McBee,
2008 Camp Counselor |
|
|
I usually choose to study in the library
because I can concentrate better there. But, during finals, when
everyone is at the library, I try to find a private place outside
or something, where I can be by myself. A great example of this
is on the grass in the quad. - Erin Hutchins, 2008 Camp Counselor |
Two of my favorite places to study
are Foy and of course the library. Foy is great for those nights
that aren't going to be very long, since it usually closes around
midnight. For those long nights the library is awesome. - Matt Holden,
2008 Camp Counselor |
|
|
My favorite place to study on campus
is on the benches facing Cater Lawn. I love to be outside and campus
tends to be much more peacful while class is going on. And in between
classes I get to say hi to friends that I see. - Stacey Beene, 2008
Camp Counselor |
My favorite place to study on campus
is at the library. This answer seems lame, but I don't like to study
IN the library, I like to study just outside of it on the benches
by the trees. Its really peaceful and quiet, and at sunset its really
pretty outside! - Liya Huluka, 2008 Camp Counselor |

What are you looking forward to the most
about this summer?
|
I am looking forward to getting to
know my freshmen the most. I remember when I came through Camp War
Eagle, and I realize how big of an impact I can potentially have
on the future of the Auburn University student body. I just want
to teach the incoming students to love Auburn University as much
as I do, and help them learn the skills needed to have a successful
freshman year. - Patrick Greene, 2008 Camp Counselor |
I am really looking forward to meeting
incoming freshmen and forming lasting relationships so I can help
them whenever they need anything. I am already enjoying getting
to know my fellow counselors, and I am excited about the group getting
closer and being an effective team. - Katie Bolt, 2008 Camp Counselor |
|
What do you hope the freshmen take away from their Camp
War Eagle experience?
|
I hope the freshmen take away a complete
sense of excitement from Camp War Eagle. With this, I hope the comfort
of being prepared gives them the encouragement to extend themselves
beyond what they thought possible, giving them the opportunity to
experience Auburn at its best. - Haley Andress, 2008 Camp Counselor |
If nothing else, I hope that freshman
would learn the importance of the Auburn Family from their camp
war eagle experience. You can learn a great deal about the Auburn
tradition through the program, but the most important thing that
incoming freshman can learn is that everyone here bleeds orange
and blue for one another. -Adam Carlisle, 2008 Camp Counselor |
|
|
When the freshmen leave Camp War Eagle,
I hope they have the confidence to start their freshman year off
with nothing holding them back. I hope they are fully informed of
everything need in order so they can have the complete Auburn experience.
Finally I hope they take away a friendship with me and a trust that
they know I am there for anything they need throughout the year.
- Kendra Moore, 2008 Camp Counselor |
My main goal is to make sure that
by the time freshmen leave Camp War Eagle, they will be more confident
about making the adjustments that will be required of them as they
make the transition to college life. Hopefully, they will have a
better awareness and appreciation for all the opportunities Auburn
has to offer, and they will be excited to begin their time as an
Auburn student. - Clay Parker, 2008 Camp Counselor |
|
|
I hope that the freshmen will leave
Camp War Eagle feeling more at ease about their transition as a
freshmen but also full of excitement for the coming months. As a
counselor I hope to calm their anxiety but also fill them with anticipation.
I hope that they will also consider me a friend and mentor instead
of a counselor for two days. Camp War Eagle is but a glimpse of
what college life will be like! - Katie Benton, 2008 Camp Counselor |
I hope each and every freshmen will
have some idea of how to get around campus, have a strong relationship
with a counselor who they know will be there for them when they
get to Auburn, and ultimately Iwould love every freshmen to make
at least one good friend they look foward to hanging out with when
they get to Auburn. - Kyle Bradberry, 2008 Camp Counselor |
|
Why do you feel it is important for incoming
freshmen to attend Camp War Eagle?
|
It's important to attend CWE because
it actually helps. Freshman year is hard enough of an adjustment,
to go in blindly would be a nightmare. This includes not just academics.
It is a great help in starting to learn how to talk to new people
and try new things and broaden your personality, all without the
pressure of dealing with classes yet. - Josh Bierman, 2008 Camp
Counselor |
Going to college is one of the biggest
transitions anyone will make in their lifetime and although you
can never be fully prepared, Camp War Eagle eases the stress of
this transition. Camp War Eagle is so helpful and gives so much
insight to the incoming freshmen and is a vital part of becoming
a successful student at Auburn University. Camp allows the incoming
freshman to become more comfortable in their new environment and
gives them the opportunity to adjust to what life will be like as
a student at Auburn University. - Leanne Maksin, 2008 Camp Counselor |
|
|
Well in order to be properly acquainted
with Auburn and know all it has to offer the freshman I feel that
Camp is crucial. It allows them to recognize the campus make initial
bonds while at camp know what classes and oppurtunities are available
for the student so they can understand how their professional life
"begins at Auburn." - Freddie Guzman, 2008 Camp Counselor |
It is important for incoming freshmen
to attend Camp because they will receive so much vital information.
I come from an Auburn family and even grew up in the Auburn area,
and I was still shocked at how much I didn’t know about Auburn
until Camp War Eagle. There will be tons of information to take
in, as well as lots of people to meet! - Jill Hodges, 2008 Camp
Counselor |
|
Why do you feel it is important for incoming
freshmen to attend Camp War Eagle?
|
My favorite memory as an Auburn student
has been going to the away games. First, it really made me a lot
closer with the people I went with to cheer on our team. Secondly,
it really made me realize how powerful the Auburn family truly is.
Every time I go to away games, there are always so many Auburn people
everywhere. It really shows me how supportive our community is.
Plus, seeing us beat Florida in Gainesville was one of the best
feelings ever. - Maria Vila, 2008 Camp Counselor |
So far, I have had many great experiences
at Auburn. Some include the Auburn Florida football game, various
basketball games, involvement in organizations, and things like
that. My favorite memory would have to be the first few days when
I arrived at Auburn as a student. The feeling of finally being in
Auburn and being able to call Auburn my home was a great experience
and I have loved every minute of being at Auburn during the past
two years. - Chris Wheeler, 2008 Camp Counselor |
|
|
This may seem cliche' but my first
Auburn football game my freshman year was incredible. I'd never
experienced a college football game so walking into the stadium
was like walking into a scene from High School Musical where everyone
was chanting in unison and you could actually feel the excitement.
-Ashley Ahner, 2008 Camp Counselor |
