Vice President for Student Affairs
Jon Waggoner serves as the Interim Vice President for Student Affairs at Auburn University. His areas of responsibility include 12 departments, where he leads more than 90 full-time employees who serve more than 25,000 undergraduate and graduate students. As the university's senior student affairs officer, he provides support and advisement to enrich the Auburn student experience and promote student success.
A native of Tucker, Georgia, Mr. Waggoner is a 1992 Auburn alumnus, receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in English. While attending Auburn University, he served as Student Government Association President and sat as an ex officio member of the Auburn University Board of Trustees. His Juris Doctorate was awarded from the University of Alabama, where he served on the Alabama Law Review. He has been admitted to the Alabama State Bar Association, Georgia State Bar Association, Florida State Bar Association and New York State Bar Association. Mr. Waggoner is a member of the Executive Counsel of the Alabama State Bar Leadership Forum and was selected from his peers to serve in the 2006 Alabama State Bar Leadership Class. His professional background includes: clerking for Chief Justice Perry Hooper, Sr. of the Alabama Supreme Court; practicing corporate and commercial law in Atlanta; and serving as a partner in the law firm of Miller, Hamilton, Snider & Odom, LLC.
He returned to his alma mater in 2004 as Special Counsel to the President and later, as University Counsel in the Office of the General Counsel. Most recently, Mr. Waggoner served as the University Interim Dining Director from August 2011 until October 2012. He serves on Auburn University's Prestigious Scholarship Committee, and he also holds appointment as an Adjunct Professor in the School of Accountancy, where he teaches Advanced Business Law. In addition to serving as Interim Vice President, Mr. Waggoner will continue his duties as University Counsel, Counsel to the Tigers Unlimited Foundation and Faculty Advisor to the War Eagle Girls and Plainsmen.
Mr. Waggoner is a member of the Auburn United Methodist Church, and he is proud to support such wonderful, charitable causes and missions in town such as Young Life, the Emmaus Community and the Child Advocacy Center of East Alabama (for which he participated in the 2013 Dancing with the East Alabama Stars). He and his wife, Kammi, are founding members of Auburn Youth Lacrosse, where he coaches and serves as Treasurer and Legal Counsel. He and Kammi are the proud parents of two children: Rett and Emery.
