Tips for Writting a Submission
- Save old submissions to use as templates for future events. Remember, there is no need to reinvent the wheel for every event.
- Submit blurbs no later than the Wednesday to ensure it runs in the following Monday’s email.
To submit a blurb, email Elizabeth Stone at firstname.lastname@example.org.
- Always send a submission with a heading or subject.
- Begin with the most important information. Ex: Tickets are still available.
- When, where should be answered first.
- Months are usually abbreviated: Jan., Feb., March, April, June, July, Aug., Sept., Oct., Nov., Dec.
- Spell out the name of your department or program in the first sentence: i.e. BSU, FLP, UPC.
- Avoid using abbreviations such as AUSC for Student Center. Spell out all words so there is no confusion or misunderstandings between the message and the audience.
- Do not capitalize ballroom.
- Times should be written as 8 p.m., 7:30 a.m., etc. Do not add :00.
- Include links in parentheses after the word: i.e. website (auburn.edu/upc) or Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/AUWelcomeWeek).
- Be concise, but include all needed information.
