Please Counsel Your Students To Be Careful About Signing Contracts

Several Auburn students have experienced difficulties after they take advantage of “so called” limited time offers to local gyms. Such offers can easily turn into long-term contracts if they are not canceled within the proscribed time, usually seven calendar days. Once the trial time passes, there is little that you or your student can do to get out of the contract.

Students should be counseled to be very careful in giving credit card numbers or authorizing banks drafts to individuals soliciting memberships. They should not be pressured into signing a contract that they cannot take home and fully read or get legal counsel about the details. Auburn University has rules governing solicitation on campus. Violators of those rules can be and have been barred from soliciting on campus, but your student may be approached by individuals in other areas.
