Holiday Celebration

This event helps kick off the holiday season on the plains. Come and enjoy hot chocolate, cookies, and Auburn special guests. Co-sponsored by SGA and UPC.
Miss Auburn University 2009, Kimberly Freind, and the 2010 contestants are hosting a Pancake Breakfast benefitting Children’s Miracle Network and the Miss America Scholarship Fund. The pancake breakfast will be held on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at Longhorn Steakhouse in Tigertown from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Tickets for the pancake breakfast are five dollars. To purchase tickets in advance and for more information, you may contact the Auburn University Student Government Association at 334.844.4240 or Michelle Murphy at murphmi@auburn.edu. Tickets will also be available at the door.
The Miss Auburn University Scholarship Program is dedicated to furthering the education of young women on Auburn University’s campus. It is apart of the Miss America Organization, which is the largest scholarship program for young women in the world. The Miss Auburn University Scholarship Pageant will be held on Friday, January 29, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in the Student Activities Center at Auburn University.
Campus Recreation will have 10 representatives taking part in the Quaker State Gridiron Flag Football Challenge in Atlanta on December 4 and 5. The two teams will compete against the 11 SEC Member Institutions on Friday and Saturday of the SEC Football Championship Weekend in a double-elimination tournament. The overall champions will be recognized during the SEC Championship game and receive a trophy.
The women's team, "Back That Pass Up" is comprised of Captain Lucy Mitchell, Brooke Jackson, Sam Linhart and Madison Thompson. The men's team, "Trix R 4 Kids" is made up of Captain Omar Sayyad, Michael Haars and brothers Evan and Kyle Stringfellow.
Campus Recreation Student Coordinators Nicholas Head and Tate Hinkle will be accompanying the teams to Atlanta serving as team referee and team representative
The Auburn University Bass Sports Club came in first place at the AU Fall Classic in Pell City, Alabama (44 boats and 85 anglers participated). The Auburn Bass Sports Club also came in second and third place at the FLW College Regional Championship in Orlando, Florida. Along with the second and third place, the team secured an additional $18,000.00 for the general scholarship fund, bringing the yearly total amount donated to the fund to $27,500.00.
Alternative Spring Break applications are due this Friday, December 4th at NOON. There are two more interest session for students to attend this week: Wednesday, December 2 at 8 p.m. and Thursday, December 3 at 6:30 p.m. If a student has a question, they can e-mail asbtrip@auburn.edu
IMPACT is working with Auburn's chapter of Engineers Without Borders on a Holiday Book Drive. The drive will be from November 30 through December 9. All books that are collected will be donated to the Lee County Boys & Girls Club. Drop boxes are in the following locations: Suite 3130 and by the Haley Center entrance of the Student Center, Lowder Business Building (outside classroom 23), Ross Hall, and Shelby Center.
The LAST day for projects for this semester is this Thursday, December 3. So encourage your students to get out and volunteer during this first week of the holiday season!
Volunteer Appreciation was November 30. Project Coordinators recognized those volunteers who had been either consistently going with them to their projects or just made a great IMPACT in their volunteer time. The Fall 2009 Volunteer of the Semester also was recognized: Rob Steele is the winner of this award with 26 hours of service recorded.
