Business Office Updates

Federal Express named preferred vendor for shipping services
Effective Thursday, April 1, Federal Express is Auburn University's preferred vendor for shipping services. The new agreement features substantially lower rates than previously available through FedEx or other express mail service providers, desktop pick-up at no additional charge, and a capped fuel surcharge. FedEx has set up an online application process to facilitate establishing new accounts or transitioning existing FedEx accounts to the new agreement pricing. For more information on how to set up or transition a current FedEx account, go to the Web site (http://www.auburn.edu/administration/business_office/pps/contracts-shipping.html ). No one should apply for FedEx accounts directly on the FedEx Web site as this will not allow them to receive the university's discount pricing. A kick-off event will be held April 22 from 9 to 11 a.m. at The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center. For more information, contact Frank Tew at tewharo@auburn.edu or 844-7771.

Student Affairs Speakers Series

The Division of Student Affairs invites you to attend the monthly Student Affairs Speakers Series, which will be held Thursday, April 8 at 12:00-1:00 p.m. in AUSC 2222. The topic is “Cross Cultural Communication."

Shakeer Abdullah, Director of the Multicultural Center, will deliver this presentation.  A Fall 2009 survey of Division of Student Affairs staff has shown that members of the DOSA  are interested in cultivating better relationships with all students at Auburn, and particularly improving interactions with international students and other under-represented student populations.  This session will focus on cross cultural communication.  Attendees will experience an interactive multimedia presentation, which will raise participants' awareness of themselves and others, and improve communication between people who have different backgrounds.

The Speakers Series is sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs Professional Development Work Group and will occur the second Thursday of each month at 12:00 noon. The mission of the Professional Development Work Group is to build a comprehensive professional development plan for the Division of Student Affairs staff members. One component of that plan is the Speaker Series. The goal of the Speaker Series is to provide a regular and recurring forum to share information and knowledge. If you are interested in being a featured speaker, please contact Jamie Mantooth at MANTOOTH@auburn.edu to receive a Call for Programs.

Bohanan to Give Final Lecture Thursday, April 8th

On Thursday, April 8th, at 5:00 PM in the Auburn University Student Center Ballroom, Dr. Donna Bohanan will deliver the third annual Final Lecture.  The Final Lecture is an opportunity for the Class of 2010 to recognize Dr. Bohanan as the professor they fell is the most outstanding faculty member at Auburn University.  Dedicated student leaders narrowed down a wide pool of nominees to five outstanding professors to be voted on by senior students across campus.  On April 8, Dr. Bohanan will deliver the third Final Lecture; a commencement-style address open to all students, faculty, and administrators.  The lecture will include words of advice and inspiration for students who have just begun their college career as well as those who are preparing to leave Auburn University upon their graduation.  Organizations eligible to receive spirit points will receive five spirit points for every member in attendance. If you have any questions, please contact Alvonice Spencer at spencal@auburn.edu or the Student Government Association office at 334-844-4240.
