am a senior in the field of Human Development and Family Studies at Auburn
University in Auburn, Alabama. I was born in Auburn but I spent 8 years
of my life in Columbia, Missouri; recently returning home.
I have a very precious passion for the honesty and uniqueness of young children. For this reason my area of emphasis within my degree is pre-school age children.
Throughout my college career I have spent many hours working for different organizations that advocate the need for quality childcare for all children. I am a member of the National Association for the Education of Young Children and I have worked three quarters in the Auburn University Child Study Center which is accredited by NAECY. Other volunteer services that I have participated in include the Head Start program serviced through the Alabama Council on Human Relations and Project Uplift sponsored by Auburn University.
am very pleased to be a part of the Appalachian Region County Commission
for the summer of 2000. I have selected a community service leadership
position with the Child
Care Resource Center
in Opelika, Alabama. My responsibilities will include working with
in-home child care providers which are located in Macon, Chambers, and
Tallapoosa counties. I will make weekly visits to various in-home child
care providers throughout the listed counties. I will be responsible for
choosing developmentally appropriate stories and activities to share
with the children.
The Child Care Resource Center also provides services which include professional development programs for childcare providers. They also host evening workshops on childcare related topics. I will be participating in portions of those services as well.
