The Final Lecture

The Student Government Association’s third annual Final Lecture is now collecting nominations for outstanding professors.  The Final Lecture program was created to give all students the opportunity to participate in a teaching award given on behalf of the student body, recognizing professors who have made extraordinary contributions to Auburn University through classroom teaching and service to the university.  To be nominated and elected by students as the top professor at Auburn University is one of the highest honors students can bestow upon a faculty member.   The selected professor delivers a keynote address to the entire university community on a topic of his or her choice. Past addresses have included words of advice and encouragement for both students beginning their college careers and those moving beyond the walls of the university.

Faculty nominations for the 2010 Final Lecture are being accepted now through November 20th.  A committee of seniors comprised of student and academic leaders will narrow down the nominations, and the upperclassmen will vote on which of the candidates is most deserving of this honor in the spring.  If you have a professor you feel is worthy of this distinction, please email sga@auburn.edu with the professor’s name and a paragraph informing the selection committee of how that professor has influenced you and Auburn University.  Students may nominate a professor within any school or college; however, previous recipients will remain ineligible for a period of four years after receiving the honor. Past Final Lecture honorees include 2008 recipient Dr. Joseph Kicklighter, history professor in the College of Liberal Arts, and 2009 honoree Dr. Lawrence Wit, Associate Dean and professor in the College of Sciences and Mathematics.    The Final Lecture for the 2009-2010 academic year is scheduled for April 8, 2010.
