The Big Event
What is the Big Event?
The Big Event is a project that was started at Texas A&M University in order to give back to its surrounding community. It expanded to many universities across the country, including Auburn University in 2003. This newest Auburn tradition offers the opportunity for the university to say, "Thank You!" to everyone in the Auburn/Opelika community, from businesses to individual homes.
On Saturday, February 7th, 2009, students will have the opportunity to volunteer with a group of friends, with an organization, or as an individual and to serve with a team on various projects. A few examples of last years' projects include Habitat for Humanity, Boys & Girls Club, Food Bank, Storybook Farms, Camp ASCCA, nursing homes, and several other cleaning, painting, and construction jobs.
This year's goal for the Big Event is to have 1,500 students complete at least 50 projects in order to show the community our gratitude and appreciation for its continued support.
