Spring 2007 Highlights

March 15 : Interfaith Dialogue Session I
Diversity and Tolerance Organization, Hillel, Navigators, and MSA discussed the topic "Religious Traditions: Holidays and Food." There were cultural refreshments provided by the organizations and interesting conversations inspired by the speakers.  We learned about cultures from around the world.

March 21: Building Bridges of Understanding through Music Concert
It was a great night of music. The event was FREE to students. Dawud Wharnsby and Idris Phillips are folk musicians inspired by Middle Eastern and Celtic sounds.  Dawud is a Canadian Muslim who has toured extensively through Canada and the UK. His folk songs were enjoyable along with the piano by Idris Phillips. And  Idris Phillips was great when he played solo on the piano. It was a delight to have such distinguished artists in our midst!

April 12: Books For Baghdad Project
The project Books For Baghdad was started in 2004 by Dr. Al-Hamdani at Jacksonville State University. The aim of the project is to collect donated books here, in the US, and distribute it to college student in the University of Bagdad. So far 31,000 books and 6,500 dollars worth of school supplies have been donated. The rest is up to you and me, so if you are willing to donate your old text books or have a friend that does not need theirs, please donate them. And we were able to gather about 20-30 books, which can all be used to rebuild the higher education system in Baghdad.
