ISA TT tournament report

Table Tennis Tournament for Men and Women was conducted on Saturday, the 20th of January 2007 and to say the least, the matches were well contested and the greatest highlight was the fight for the women’s title. There were a number of tough fights but the pick of them all – the men’s final itself and the match between Aakash and Aman Satija, a gripping 3 setter game.

The Men’s Singles event, started off with 10 participants in the initial knock out round which consisted of 3 sets per match. The winners then went on to play against each other to decide the final 3 for the triangular challenge which would then decide the winner. In the final challenge, with Aman beaten by Prasanna and Sagar, the final  match between Prasanna and Sagar would decide the winner.A tough contest between the two and Sagar who was trailing initially in the first set came back to win the first and the next set, thus sealing the game and the event and the scoreline read 24-22;21-17.

The highlight of the day, however , was the game for the women’s title between Kavitha Arumugam  and Deepti Gautham. By far the most cheered upon match and went on to the deciding  3rd  set  with Kavitha and Deepti pocketing a set each. However, Deepti Gautham had the last laugh beating Kavitha in the final set and went on to bag the title with the scoreline reading 21-14;22-24;21-17

The last event of the day was Men’s Doubles featuring four teams. Each Team played another in Knock out format and the winners played each other for the title. In the first round, Aman Sathija teamed up with Arum Kumar.T.J to beat Ananthakrishnan Narayan and Sagara Gururaj while in the other match the duo of Prasanna and Siddharth got the better of Srivathsan Soundarajan and Naveenan Thiagarajan. The doubles final was no short of a good game and Aman Sathija and Arun Kumar T J got the better of Prasanna and Siddharth to bag the title.
