The next meeting of the Auburn IDSA chapter will go down on Tuesday, October 11th, 2005 @ 4:45 pm. We’re going to talk about a lot of things and then have a special tablet-rendering demonstration by beloved professor Ahn. Don’t miss it, it’s gonna be hot.
Other items on the agenda will include talking about the upcoming Pumpkin Carve and trying to figure out what to do with all this money we got. It is also the cut-off date for membership, so if you want it you better get to payin’ yer $25.00
Thanks to everyone for making this years Design Interaction a success. My mind was blown by all the speakers and i’m pretty sure yours was too. I found it empowering to see Auburn alumni doing great things and making that phat ca$h money.
We sold enough T-Shirts and lunches to fully pay for that evening’s cocktail party and then some.
Pictures will be up soon.
IDSA has been charged with collecting $500 from the faculty, staff, and students of Industrial Design for hurricane relief. I’ve mentioned before that rather than going out to eat tonight or buying that hot new Britney Spears CD, put that money toward this fund and feel great in knowing that you are, indeed, a winner.
I was really happy to see room 107 packed full of people yesterday. We sold out on t-shirts, and will be printing more soon.
I mean like woah we got a budget now.
So this is the first ‘real’ post to the blog. Wow.
My main goal as IDSA Presidenté this year is to get people excited about design. A lot of times this major can really be a drag: spending hours upon hours in the studio / shop / computer lab while your friends are out having a great time without you. I know that the Emerson studio last spring had me, at times, questioning why I chose Industrial Design.
When I was feeling especially horrid, I took a break and went to the IDSA Southern District Conference in Memphis, TN with about ten other Auburn students. I had an epiphany. Getting away from my project and all the problems at hand and seeing the applications of what we are learning and how broad this field is really made me realize that I did make the right decision in choosing this major and this school. I was fired up again.
I want to make sure people can share the same experience I had. Even if people don’t want to go to the conference next year, I will try to make our meetings and events worthwhile and informative. I just want people to get excited and realize all the options they have: I want to see creativity pouring out of everyone.
On a similar note, some people have asked me why they should join. Frankly, it’s worth the membership dues alone to list on your resumé that you were active in IDSA. Beyond that, I will make it worth your while, because I’m paying the same dues you are and want to get something back for my investment.
Fact of the matter is, you will get from it what you put in. If you are one of these people who show up for class, do your work, then leave and never get involved, what does that really say about you? Get involved. Your future really does depend on it.
This is the end of the motivational manifesto. See everyone at the meeting today.
