A Brief History

The Alabama Beta chapter has overcome many obstacles to get where it is now. The chapter was chartered at Auburn in 1974 and closed down in 1988 due to low membership. In 2003, a handful of diverse students decided to re-colonize Phi Kappa Psi here and in 2005 we were officially re-chartered. The founding members of this installation of our fraternity sacrificed much of their time at Auburn to get this chapter going, meeting in Foy Student Union for chapter. When Phi Psi finally obtained a chapter house after re-chartering, it was a defining moment and it signified that we were moving forward. It’s not easy build something from the ground up, but our chapter has a solid foundation and is moving forward. Alabama Beta will be moving into a new chapter house in the fall 2008 semester and making it our home while we work on an alumni corporation and housing corporation.
The Alabama Beta chapter of Phi Kappa Psi is working to make a greater mark on the Auburn campus. As one of the younger fraternities to the Auburn campus, we have excelled in scholarship, intramural sports, and leadership. However, we put our greatest efforts into forging a strong brotherhood.
Our chapter is a diverse group coming from all over the country. We take pride in the common bonds that we share with each other, while simultaneously allowing members to remain individuals. Brotherhood is a responsibility that can be difficult at times, but one that can be a priceless experience. There are many opportunities to impact the community, gain valuable leadership experience, or make life-long friendships.
