Philanthropy

For more than 25 years, Tri Delta's philanthropic mission has been to help fight childhood cancer. Since 1974, Delta Delta Delta has raised more than $10 million in support of children's cancer hospitals, research facilities, and cancer camps. In November 1999, Tri Delta further enhanced its current philanthropic focus by forming a partnership with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. This partnership allows Tri Delta chapters to help St. Jude on a National level as well as support traditional philanthropic events for local children's cancer charities.

The Phi Theta chapter works closely with Camp Smile-A-Mile, a children's cancer camp in central Alabama. Each year, our chapter raises money by holding various events. Camp SAM has become very close to our chapter's heart, as we have many sisters who go and volunteer there each summer as counselors and interact with and help the kids. We strive to make our philanthropy not just a charity but an experience for us to get involved and help.

At Phi Theta we not only raise money for our own philanthropy but we actively help other campus organizations to raise money for their own. In 2004 we, along with other sororities, helped raise more than $27,000 for the Children's Miracle Network by competing in the Derby Days fundraiser. We placed second in 2004 and first in 2005! Also for two years in a row we have raised the top amount of money to donate to the Johnny Michael Spann Endowment, which gives scholarships to students whose parents have been killed in the line of duty.
