What is pledging?

The pledge process, a 6 week program, is the new member orientation portion of AKL's Kai Membership Education Program. Our new member orientation is much like an AKL 101 course. Pledging is a time for a new member to be introduced to the Fraternity. New members are educated on the Fraternity's expectations, Ideals, standards, history, and operations. It is also a time for new members to form friendships and bond with brothers and fellow new members.

The Fraternity of Alpha Kappa Lambda has been a leader in the fight against hazing. We are a non-hazing fraternity and such behavior is absolutely unacceptable among our membership. The pledge process is a time for growth and experience. We work to build our brothers up not break them down.

Membership in Alpha Kappa Lambda is a lifelong commitment and such a commitment requires an adequate preparation. That is what our new member program aims to do, prepare our members for an Affiliation Kindled for Life.

Our education does not end there. We do not expect 6 weeks worth of education to fully prepare our members. Alpha Kappa Lambda focuses on a three stage education process. Our new member program is only the beginning. After initiation into the Fraternity, members are expected to continue their education via our Kai Membership Education Program. There are two more stages in our education program designed to prepare our members for successful collegiate careers and life beyond graduation and the college campus.
