Former Auburn Band Director Wilbur "Bodie" Hinton passes
The Auburn Bands are saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Wilbur "Bodie" Hinton. Dr. Hinton was the sixth Director of Bands from 1956-69. In 1957 Dr. Hinton discarded the old gray cadet-style uniforms in favor of sharp "Yale-style" uniforms in crisp orange and blue. He insisted that Auburn men and women demonstrate class in all oaths of life. A tradition that still lives on in the Auburn Band program today. That spirit still lives on today in the annual Bodie Hinton award, voted on by the members of the marching band and presented to the senior who best demonstrates the "Spirit and Excellence that is The Auburn University Marching Band."
