How can I become involved in a leadership position?
A.M.E.S. has
many opportunities for members to become involved. There are two types
of officers: elected and appointed. Any member of A.M.E.S who is
dedicated may serve as an officer provided they meet any necessary
qualifications and are in good standing with Auburn University. Below
is a description of the officers, their roles, and any other qualifications.
Each Spring elections are held to determine the officers for the next year.
Elected Officials
President: The President shall
preside at meetings and be aware of all committee and officer business. He
or she must also be a member of N.C.T.M., have continual access to email,
and file an annual report for A.M.E.S. with N.C.T.M.
Vice President/President Elect:
The Vice President/President Elect shall preside at meetings in absence of
President, oversee all committees, and maintain the constitution.
Secretary: The Secretary shall be
responsible for taking and preparing minutes for A.M.E.S. meetings, for
keeping accurate record of attendance, and for maintaining an accurate and
updated address and e-mail list of members.
Treasurer: The Treasurer shall be
responsible for financial concerns, budget concerns, and fundraising. He or
she shall be responsible for setting membership dues and for paying NCTM
annual dues.
N.C.T.M. Representative: The
N.C.T.M. Representative shall keep N.C.T.M. updated of officer changes,
membership information (including names, addresses, and email addresses),
and other A.M.E.S. news. He or she shall be responsible for informing AMES
of N.C.T.M. news, events, and resources. He or she must also be a member of
N.C.T.M. and have continual access to email.
Appointed Officials
Program Chair: The Program Chair
shall be responsible for coordinating professional development
opportunities.
Membership Chair: The Membership
Chair shall be responsible for recruiting new members and planning for
affiliate and N.C.T.M. membership development
Service Chair: The Service Chair
shall be responsible for maintaining active service projects throughout the
year, keeping a record of member participation.
Social Chair: The Social Chair
shall be responsible for organizing and maintaining communication between
upper and lower classmen.
Webmaster: The Webmaster shall
be responsible for creating and maintaining the AMES website, listserv, and
any other technologies used by AMES.
COE Student Council Representative:
The College of Education Student Council Representative shall be responsible
for attending the College of Education Student Council meetings and
informing AMES members about activities within the college.
