code of conduct

As members and pledges of Alpha Eta Rho, we participate in a variety of social and professional events. Because of this, no single set of rules can cover every possible eventuality. However, most of our activities will fall under one of the following three categories, each of which has its own set of specific guidelines:

Official Social Events (i.e. AHP sponsored tailgates)
Each of the following is expressly prohibited:
-Disrespectful, aggressive, or excessive profanity
-Fighting or physical aggression
-Sexual, physical, or mental harassment or abuse
-Excessive drinking
-Damaging the personal property of others Professional Events (i.e. general meetings, officer meetings, speaking engagements, conferences, job shadows, and tours)
-Drinking and public intoxication are strictly forbidden.
-Profanity of any kind is prohibited.
-Members and pledges shall maintain the level of respect expected of a professional fraternity towards each other and our guests.
-Members and pledges shall dress appropriately for each given event.
-When the members and pledges of AHP are guests at a particular event, any violation of our host's conduct policy shall be considered equivalent to a violation of our own Code of Conduct.

Pledge Events (i.e. initiation and bid night)
Each of the following is expressly prohibited:
-No overtly sexual language or behavior will be tolerated.
-Intoxication and the possession of alcohol are prohibited.
-Auburn University's anti-hazing policy shall be strictly followed.
-All members and pledges shall follow the leadership of the Pledge Trainer and any event coordinators.
-No aggressive behavior or disrespectful attitudes will be allowed.

Offense Procedures
If a member is a victim of or witnesses a violation of the Code of Conduct, he or she should:
1.) Contact the Conduct Committee chair
2.) If unable to contact the chair, he or she may contact any officer
3.) In any case, the complaint may be brought to any officer meeting.
The Chair will then call an offense or emergency meeting. There will be a minimum of two meetings for every offense:
-One with the offended
-One with the offender

Sanctions
The following sanctions will be judged and assessed on a per-semester basis.
1.) A verbal warning may be issued to the offender.
2.) A written warning may be issued and the member may be banned from a major event of the semester (i.e. the alumni reunion, formal, etc.)
3.) A request for suspension or dismissal of the offender from the Fraternity may be made to the officers.
If the offender declines to meet with the Conduct Committee:
-The offender shall be immediately suspended for the remainder of the semester
-If the matter is not resolved by the end of the semester, the offender may be dismissed from AHP unless otherwise decided by the officers.
Suspension is defined as the temporary removal of the offender from the Fraternity and its associated events for one semester. Dismissal is defined as a permanent ban of the offender from the Fraternity and its associated events.
The Conduct Committee has the ultimate authority in deciding which sanction is appropriate for any offense.
Officers shall automatically start at sanction 2 if they commit an offense
Should an officer receive sanction 3, he or she shall immediately lose his or her position.
