Supplemental Instruction (SI)
Sponsored by Academic Support
- Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a series of weekly review sessions for students taking historically difficult courses.
- SI is provided for all students who want to improve their understanding of course material and improve their grades.
- Attendance at sessions is voluntary.
- At each session you will be guided through the material by your SI leader, a competent student who has previously taken the course.
- They're not GTAs, they're not even tutors, they're students just like you.
- They'll be in class with you every day, hearing what you hear and reading what you read.
- What they won't do is lecture; their job is to help you think about the lectures you hear and the books you read, and then put it all together into some kind of perspective during SI review sessions so you can learn it more efficiently.
- SI leaders are selected by the professors and trained by Academic Support staff.
- Your SI leader made at least a "B" in the course and they have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
- Session times will be announced in class.
- You can attend all or none. . . it's all up to you.
- You can click on the Semester Schedule Link to view all the SI session, rooms, and times.
- Quite simply, if you go to SI on a regular basis you will get a better grade.
- SI at Auburn has been proven to increase the test grades of those students who attend regularly by a half to a whole letter grade. In other words, attending SI regularly may add 5 to 10 points to your test grades!!
- At each SI session your leader will present you with a study skill that may be useful in all of your courses.
