Resident Freshman Scholarships

National Merit, National Achievement and National Hispanic Scholars
Alabama National Merit Finalists, National Achievement Finalists, and National Hispanic Scholars automatically receive a four-year, renewable Spirit of Auburn Presidential Scholarship. Presidential Scholars receive tuition for four years, currently valued at $23,144 ($5,786 per year); a $1,500 technology allowance in the first year; and the Auburn Academic Guarantee, which includes automatic admission to the Honors College and an enrichment experience valued at $4,000 during the third year. A Spirit of Auburn Presidential Scholarship replaces a Spirit of Auburn Founders or University Scholarship if previously awarded.

National Scholars may also be eligible for a university stipend from $1,000 to $2,000, depending on financial need as determined through completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) . National Merit Finalists should contact National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) to name Auburn University as their first-choice institution by the requested deadline. National Achievement Finalists and National Hispanic Scholars should mail or fax a copy of their notification letter to the Office of University Scholarships upon receipt.  

Alabama National Merit Semifinalists and National Achievement Semifinalists who meet the December 1 Freshman Scholarship priority deadline automatically receive a four-year, renewable Spirit of Auburn University Scholarship for $6,000 over four years ($1,500 per year).


Elite Scholarships
The University Scholarship Committee invites a select group of incoming freshmen, usually those with a minimum 34 ACT or 1490 SAT score and a 3.5 high school GPA by the December 1 Freshman Scholarship priority deadline, to apply for up to six of Auburn’s most prestigious scholarships. Following application review by the Committee, 12 to 14 finalists are invited to campus in February to interview. Elite Scholars receive an additional $10,000-$32,000 over four years ($2,500-$8,000 per year).

Auburn Spirit Foundation Scholarships
Incoming freshmen who meet the December 1 Freshman Scholarship priority deadline receive automatic consideration. Auburn Spirit Foundation Scholarships are awarded among students with a minimum 26 ACT or 1170 SAT score and a 3.0 high school GPA who have not already been recognized by the Office of University Scholarships with a scholarship of equal or greater value. Additional consideration is given to first generation college students. Auburn Spirit Foundation Scholarships are awarded in January at $6,000 over four years ($1,500 per year).


Advancement Scholarship
Incoming freshmen who are accepted for admission by the March 1 Financial Aid priority deadline receive automatic consideration if they: (1) have a minimum 22 ACT or 1010 SAT score; (2) have a minimum 3.25 high school GPA; and (3) reside in one of Alabama’s Black Belt counties, reside in a county identified by AU's Office of Enrollment Services as an underrepresented county, and/or attend a high school identified by the State of Alabama Department of Education and AU's Office of Enrollment Services as a priority school. Additional consideration is given to those students who are first generation college students and/or demonstrate financial need through completion of the FAFSA . Advancement Scholarships are awarded in March at $20,000 over four years ($5,000 per year).


Achievement Scholarship
Alabama public and private high schools may nominate one student who has demonstrated outstanding academic achievement. To receive consideration, nominated students must be accepted for admission and have a minimum 24 ACT or 1090 SAT score and a 3.5 high school GPA. Nomination forms are mailed to high schools in January. Achievement Scholarships are awarded in February at $6,000 over four years ($1,500 per year).


Leadership Scholarship
Alabama public and private high schools may nominate one student who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in their school and/or community. To receive consideration, nominated students must be accepted for admission and have a minimum 24 ACT or 1090 SAT score and a 3.5 high school GPA. Nomination forms are mailed to high schools in January. Leadership Scholarships are awarded in February at $6,000 over four years ($1,500 per year).
