General Scholarships

Eligible students are automatically considered for any General Scholarship for which they meet the criteria. Unless otherwise noted, recipients are selected by the Office of University Scholarships, and the minimum academic requirements for consideration are as follows:

     Incoming freshmen — Accepted for admission and a minimum 3.0 high school GPA
     Transfer students — Accepted for admission and a minimum 3.0 transfer GPA
     Current students — Minimum 3.0 cumulative, unadjusted AU GPA

For incoming freshmen, priority consideration is given to students who met the Freshman Scholarship priority deadline of December 1 and have a minimum 28 ACT or 1240 SAT score and 3.25 high school GPA. For transfer students, priority consideration is given to students with a minimum 3.25 transfer GPA.

To receive consideration for need-based scholarships, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year by the Financial Aid priority deadline of March 1.

General Scholarships Criteria


Special Consideration General Scholarships
Unless otherwise noted, materials required for priority consideration of these scholarships should be submitted to the Office of University Scholarships on or before February 1.

Alabama Crime Victim Dependent Scholarship
Must be an Alabama resident and a dependent of a homicide victim with preference given to students who demonstrate financial need. Contact the Office of University Scholarships for acceptable documentation.

AU Employee Dependent Children Endowed Scholarship
Must be enrolled at the Auburn University main campus and be a dependent of a full-time Auburn University employee, with preference given to students who demonstrate financial need. Requires completion of a separate application available online in January with a March 3 deadline.

Ann Barr Honorary 4-H Club Scholarship
Must be an active participant in 4-H, demonstrate academic excellence, and demonstrate financial need. Requires a resume of 4-H activities.

Robert G. and Carrie C. Dawson Scholarship for Alabama AT&T Employee Dependents
Must be a dependent of an AT&T employee and an Alabama resident with preference given to students who demonstrate financial need. Incoming freshmen must have a minimum 25 ACT or 1130 SAT score to receive consideration. Requires a copy of the employee identification badge.

J & M Bookstore Scholarship for Former Employee Dependents
Must demonstrate financial need with preference given to students who are dependents of former employees of J & M Bookstore, be active participants in school and/or community activities, and have a work history.

Ceddrick C. Mack Memorial Beacon Leadership Scholarship
Must be an incoming freshmen who demonstrates outstanding leadership and academic excellence. Requires completion of a separate application with a January 21 deadline. Recipients are recommended to the Office of University Scholarships by the Ceddrick C. Mack Memorial Beacon Leadership Scholarship Committee. Contact the Student Government Association for more information.

Presbyterian Home for Children Scholarship for Residents, Employees and Employee Dependents
Must demonstrate financial need with preference given to residents of the Presbyterian Home for Children in Talladega, Alabama, as well as staff members or their children. Contact the Office of University Scholarships for acceptable documentation.

Provost Undergraduate Leadership Scholarship
Preference given to a student who is a first generation college student, demonstrates financial need, is an Alabama resident, and demonstrates diversity as determined by the goals of the Auburn University Strategic Diversity Plan. Requires completion of a separate application with a February 19 deadline. Recipients are selected by the Provost Leadership Undergraduate Scholarship Committee. Johnny Micheal Spann Memorial Scholarship
Preference given to dependents of Auburn University graduates who were killed while serving in the line of duty, then to dependents of federal service members who were killed while serving in the line of duty, and then to dependents of Auburn University graduates who have honorably served on active federal service. Requires a copy of the front and back of the student’s Uniformed Services Identification and Privilege Card and a DD Form 1300 (Report of Casualty).

Albert L. Thomas Scholarship for Eagle Scouts
Must demonstrate academic achievement, demonstrate leadership qualities, and be an active member of the Boy Scouts of America with at least one year tenure at the time of enrollment at Auburn University. Preference given to students who demonstrate financial need. Requires a resume of Eagle Scout activities.
