New Students

To receive scholarship consideration as an incoming freshman or transfer student, we recommend the following steps.

Incoming Freshmen
Transfer Students

Incoming Freshmen

  1. Apply for admission with all admission materials postmarked by the December 1 Freshman Scholarship priority deadline to receive automatic consideration for Freshman and General Scholarships. Admission materials should be sent to Admission Processing, 108 Mary Martin Hall, Auburn University, AL 36849, and include:

    • Application for admission
    • $50 application fee ($60 for International Students)
    • Official ACT and SAT scores (including the writing score from at least one test date) – The highest composite ACT score or total SAT score from a single test date is used in determining eligibility for admission and scholarships. Subject scores from different test dates are not combined. For the purpose of awarding scholarships, Auburn does not currently consider the writing score on the ACT or SAT test. Effective for students planning to enroll Summer or Fall 2012, official test scores must be sent to Auburn directly from the testing agency. We will no longer accept test scores posted on high school transcripts.
    • Official high school transcript – The cumulative GPA (weighted or unweighted) indicated on the high school transcript is used in determining eligibility for admission and scholarships, provided the GPA is calculated on a 4.0 scale. Admission Processing will automatically recalculate the GPA if it is not provided on a 4.0 scale or if a weighted GPA is not provided and the student course work includes Advanced Placement, IB, Honors, and/or Gifted courses.
  2. Confirm revised transcripts and/or updated test scores have been received by the December 1 Freshman Scholarship priority deadline.

  3. Alabama residents should review the requirements for consideration of Spirit of Auburn Scholarships and the list of available Freshman Resident Scholarships. Non-residents should review the requirements for consideration of Academic Scholarships and the list of available Freshman Non-Resident Scholarships.

Students who attend another postsecondary institution after high school graduation and prior to enrollment at Auburn are considered transfer students, regardless of the number of transfer credit hours earned and the term they plan to enroll. Transfer students are ineligible for consideration of Freshman Scholarships.

Exceptions are made for students who attend another postsecondary institution the summer immediately following high school graduation and enroll at Auburn fall semester of the same year.

  4. Review the list of available General Scholarships and the requirements for consideration.

  5. Inquire about Departmental Scholarship opportunities with the college/school and department in which you plan to major.

  6. Pursue External Scholarship opportunities using any available resource, including those provided on this website.

  7. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), available online beginning
January 1. The FAFSA must be received by Auburn University by the financial aid priority deadline of March 1 for need-based scholarship consideration.

  8. Respond to all scholarship offers by the date requested.
