What’s Hapnin? … Fall Conference Oct 3-5!

Fall Conference is fast approaching and Alpine Camp is tucked into the woods atop Lookout Mountain waiting on us. We’ll leave on Friday, eat supper on the way up, settle in, and begin a great weekend. Deerfoot Lodge has rows of rocking chairs, indoor and outdoor fireplaces, antler chandeliers and is the perfect spot to stay up way too late and become deliriously tired. Expect everything from Jenga (steady your hand), to spades, to hiking, to hammocking, to basketball, to Ultimate, to tennis, to summiting Everest. Saturday the ropes course will provoke blood curdling screams as you plunge off the High V swing. Relax. Have Fun. All of this will surround times of worship and preaching of the gospel. Paul Hahn, who started RUF at Auburn, has planted two churches and is now the pastor of the second, Redeemer Presbyterian in Knoxville, will be our speaker. This weekend will be great for connecting with others in RUF and giving attention to what you believe about the most important questions you could ever ask.

Paul’s will preach for us on The Gospel as the Power of God and will show how the Gospel addresses your sins, your fears, your identity and your dreams.

Large Group Mondays @ 8 in Dudley B6

The new student center is on the third floor of the new student center. We will be back in Dudley the next week. Dudley is the Architecture Building next to the Amphitheater below the Hill. There is parking on the Hill, on the street below Dudley, in the lot toward the Stadium and the Parking Deck. In large group this semester we will study “The Life of Abraham” where we will see that this influential figure struggled to live by faith as we do. Abraham is a not-so-heroic ‘hero’ of the faith in whom God patiently worked redemption as he does in us. If you have never been to one of our meetings, this is what you can expect. We get together to know and worship God. There is singing, announcements, prayers, readings from Scripture, opportunities to confess our sin to God or declare what we believe about him, and preaching. If you are trying to figure out what you believe about Jesus, we try our best to show you what Christians are like and speak in ways that make sense and are meaningful to all. We believe that if you join us to know or know more of God in your life, you will. See you soon.

Freshmen Bible Study at 4 on Tuesdays at the Auburn Chapel

One of the craziest things about starting at Auburn is that some are “new” for the first time in their lives–new town, new school, and new people. Our Freshmen Bible Study is a great way every week to explore and expand on what it means to be a Christian in this new setting. This smaller group will be led by Richard, Tom and Emily and will meet for an hour. The Chapel is across from Samford Hall on the corner of Thach and College Street. Come as you can. New faces are always welcome.

Bible Club at the Learning Zone will begin Thursday August 28th.

It’s Thursday afternoon, you’ve just emerged from the bowels of Haley center feeling less healthy of body and mind from the want of natural sunlight and the soul numbing drone accompanying imperceptibly different powerpoint slides of some pre-historic virus. You know that such study is supposed to be important but you also know you need some variety and balance in your life. You feel the siren song of Sports Center calling you home to your couch to review the episode you already watched this morning–oh those guys are funny. But then a little voice inside you whispers, “British Bulldog, Freeze Tag, and Father Abraham.” Puzzled at first you then recognize that it is the Holy Spirit summoning you to run and play and sing and love some of the greatest kids in the Auburn community at the Learning Zone. You go, you sweat, you laugh and you realize that this is exactly what they and you needed. Come and join us every Thursday from 4-5 at the Learning Zone. You will find a link to the map from the calendar. We always need more help, and you will find that it is so different from what you do the rest of the week that it becomes a way that you stay rooted in the love of Christ for the world.
