Fall Conference is fast approaching and Camp to Know Him is nestled in the mountains of North Alabama. We’ll leave on Friday, eat supper on the way up, settle in, and begin a great weekend. The Lodge with its fire places and sturdy beams with pool table and porch is the perfect spot to stay up way too late and become deliriously tired. Expect everything from Jenga (steady your hand), to spades, to hiking, to hammocking, to bonfires, to Ultimate, to watching Football. Saturday is free to enjoy the camp. Relax. Have Fun. Sports. Enjoy the bluff overlooking the river valley below. All of this will surround times of worship and preaching of the gospel. Paul Boyd, who is an avid Auburn fan and campus minister at Middle Tennessee State University, will be our speaker. This weekend will be great for connecting with others in RUF and giving attention to what you believe about the most important questions you could ever ask.
To register, email RUFAuburn@gmail.com your Name, Phone Number, Email Address, Gender, Parent’s Name and Emergency Contact Number. Also, let us know when you can leave on Friday, if you can drive and how many people you can take. You can pay by check made payable to Richard Vise and given to Marie Parsons or by clicking on the Paypal link below (this will cost three extra dollars). Cost is $75 by Sept 27th and $85 after that. Talk to Richard about financial aid options. If you pay online, there is an additional $3 charge to cover PayPal’s fees.

Most come to RUF because they believe or at least are open to the possibility that knowing God would make their lives and the world better. We want friends who won’t use us. We want some of the garbage cleaned out of our lives. We want to be free from bitterness, to find love, to do something meaningful and much more. God affirms these desires but having them does not make us Christians. They make us human. This semester we are studying Exodus. If you have never been to one of our meetings, this is what you can expect. There is singing, announcements, prayers, readings from Scripture, opportunities to confess our sin to God or declare what we believe about him, and preaching. Many people believe already. Some used to believe and are trying to figure out if they can believe again. Some have little interest in God or Jesus but come along with a friend. Everybody’s welcome and we try our best to show you what Christians are like and speak in ways that make sense and are meaningful. We believe that if you join us to know or know more of God in your life, you will.

One of the best things about being at Auburn is getting to know new people. Some great friendships come every year out of this group because God is at work in us. We believe that the primary way God makes himself known to us is as we humbly read, study, and embrace his Word. We love it when a smaller community forms within RUF that loves to hang out and begins to serve others around us. We meet for an hour and often eat dinner after. Occasionally we will do something different like spend a longer time in prayer, serve the community together or do something through which we can introduce others friends to RUF. I hope that you can make it. Richard, Tom and Meggie will lead it.

When God works to redeem he builds a people for himself and for one another. We were made to know others and be known by them. Fellowship groups meet at various times during the week for knowing, serving, laughing, praying, eating and discussing God’s Word. Some for dudes, some for dames and some for both. Check the small groups page for a list of current groups.

It’s Thursday afternoon, you’ve just emerged from the bowels of Haley center feeling less healthy of body and mind from the want of natural sunlight and the soul numbing drone accompanying imperceptibly different powerpoint slides of some pre-historic virus. You know that such study is important but you also know you need some variety and balance in your life. You feel the siren song of Sports Center calling you home to your couch to review the episode you already watched this morning–oh those guys are funny. But then a little voice inside you whispers, “British Bulldog, Freeze Tag, and Father Abraham.” Puzzled at first you then recognize that it is the Holy Spirit summoning you to run and play and sing and love some of the greatest kids in the Auburn community at the Learning Zone. You go, you sweat, you laugh and you realize that this is exactly what they and you needed. Come and join us every Thursday from 4-5 at the Learning Zone 1221 Commerce Dr. 36830. We always need more help, and you will find that it is so different from what you do the rest of the week that it becomes a way that you stay rooted in the love of Christ for the world.
