The Hybridoma Laboratory at Auburn University provides services to AU faculty and students for the development of hybridoma cell lines producing murine monoclonal antibodies specific for given antigens for applied and basic research. Hybridoma Laboratory services are also available to faculty from other institutions and to private industry. Its off-campus service center provides an extremely efficient environment that is conducive to uninterrupted research. Separate laboratories are available for culture medium preparation, mouse preparation and dissection, cell culture and hybridoma fusion, and hybridoma screening, as well as rooms for autoclaving and water treatment and a mouse rearing facility that meets NIH guidelines.

Its trained personnel can perform all phases of hybridoma development and monoclonal antibody production, including mouse immunization, cell fusion, HAT selection of hybridoma cell lines, ELISA or western blot screening of hybridoma cell lines for specific antibodies, cloning, frozen storage of cell lines, and ascites antibody production.

The Advanced Microscopy & Imaging Laboratory and the Genomics & Sequencing Laboratory are integrated to form Auburn University’s Research Instrumentation Facility. The mission of the Research Instrumentation Facility is to (1) provide state-of-the-art scientific expertise and instrumentation in the areas of microscopy, image acquisition, and genetic analysis to faculty, staff, students, and research partners; (2) educate and train researchers and students in the theories and techniques of microscopy, image acquisition, and genetic analysis; (3) focus attention on the research mission and capabilities of both laboratories by highlighting their activities by providing tours and workshops to Alabama schools, university classes, extension groups, research institutions, industry, and civic organizations; and (4) provide research instrumentation services to users within and outside the University system on a repayment basis.

The Harrison School of Pharmacy has provided pharmaceutical product development expertise and services for numerous small, moderate, and large pharmaceutical firms. Development projects have included drug and protein products for use as prescription, OTC, nutraceutical, and veterinary applications. Besides the facility and expertise within the school, strong collaborations exist between the College of Veterinary Medicine, the Department of Chemical Engineering, and East Alabama Medical Center.
