National Academy of Inventors

Auburn University has become a member of the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) as one of its charter member institutions, and has formed a local chapter of the organization. The NAI was founded at the University of South Florida in 2009, to recognize and encourage inventors and to raise the visibility of technology transfer on campuses.

Eligibility for inventor membership requires the individual to be a faculty or staff member, student, graduate or affiliate of a member institution, and to be named as an inventor on at least one issued United States Patent. All eligible Auburn University personnel are invited to join as charter members of the Auburn Chapter of the Academy of Inventors.

In support of the initiative, and in the hope that a local NAI chapter will encourage a spirit of entrepreneurialism at Auburn, Vice President for Research John Mason will provide the first year's membership fee for any Auburn faculty or staff who want to join the organization.

Contact Jan Thornton in the Office of Technology Transfer at 844-4977 for questions about the NAI to apply for membership.
