AU principal investigator develops organic fertilizer

Auburn University plant pathologist and Distinguished University Professor Rodrigo Rodriguez-Kabana has reformulated glycerin, a by-product of biodiesel, to be used as an organic fertilizer that will control one of the major and most difficult pests in Alabama, the soil-born pest, also known as plant parasitic nematodes. This organic fertilizer will give farmers a natural alternative to methyl bromide, a chemical in pesticides known to cause damage to the earth’s ozone layer.
