The
IBC requires annual
training for faculty, staff, and
students that work in laboratories containing infectious agents and rDNA.
Training records should
accompany BUA submissions for all laboratory personnel listed on the BUA.
The
PI is responsible for
maintaining training records of all laboratory personnel in the primary laboratory
approved for use in the BUA.
Questions may be referred to the
Biological Safety Officer.
Training
requirements may be satisfied by:
1.
Completing
online training modules provided
by Risk Management and Safety
(RMS) which are available using
Black
Board, or

Instructions for RMS Black Board Courses are provided by
clicking here.
2. Attending a
RMS training session, or

RMS provides seminar based training to groups across campus. These
sessions
satisfy training requirements and can be scheduled by
contacting the
Biosafety
Officer.
3. Participating in a
PI conducted training session.

PI conducted training must cover generalized training for the biosafety
level at which the laboratory operates and specialized training for
specific hazards present in the lab. Specific training may include, but
is not limited to: 1) safe handling and disposal of biohazardous
materials, 2) the necessary precautions to prevent exposures, 3)
exposure evaluation procedures, and 4) handling of sharps and medical
waste. Please reference the
Biological Safety Manual or contact the
Biosafety Officer with questions regarding appropriate training
content.
