GSL - Fragment Analysis
The Genomics & Sequencing
Lab (GSL) uses the ABI 3100 Genetic Analyzer for the analysis of
fluorescently labeled DNA fragments.The use of four flourescent dyes allows
multi-plexing of three microsatellites (for example) plus a size standard in
every lane, eliminating lane to lane variability and increasing throughput.The
GeneScan software collects and sizes or quantitates the DNA fragments. The
Genotyper software is available for additioinal genetic analysis of the data
such as forensic identification, inheritence checking, linkage mapping, etc.
The data output has peaks similar to sequencing and/or as tabular data for
importing into a spreadsheet.
