Licensure

Our program adheres to APA accreditation standards and prepares students for entry into the profession of clinical psychology. Given the varied and changing requirements across jurisdictions, we cannot assure that graduates will meet course requirements for licensure in all states or territories. You are encouraged to become familiar with state licensing laws and discuss your curricular plan with your major professor and program director.

For information on licensure in the state of Alabama , please visit: psychology.state.al.us/index.htm

For information on licensure in the United States and Canada , please visit the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards: www.asppb.org

To facilitate the internship application process and later licensure applications, students should carefully document every relevant aspect of their clinical training experience and coursework. Regarding training experiences, examples of information needed include: number of cases and supervised hours using a particular approach, length of time each case was seen, number of assessments, number of uses of each assessment approach, and so on. Most APA-approved clinical internships are members of the Association of Psychology Internship and Postdoctoral Centers (APPIC), which has developed a standard application form (the AAPI) to document clinical training experiences. Since this documentation form may change yearly, students are encouraged to check the APPIC website (www.appic.org) to ensure that they are maintaining records at the proper level of detail. An electronic spreadsheet that can assist with training documentation is available by clicking here. Supplemental resources are also available from Steve Shapiro. See also the Canadian Council of Professional Psychology Programs website.

For each course taken while in graduate school, students should retain the official course description available in the Auburn University Bulletin, the course syllabus, and graded products (if available). This material may help to document the specific nature of the course, if such a question arises during the process of securing licensure.
