Fall 2008 Psi Chi Officers

 

 

President - Brittani Berbette is a senior from Huntsville, Alabama. She is currently working in Dr. Correia's Addictive Behaviors Lab and Dr. Mattson's Marriage and Family Relationship Lab. She is also working with Dr. Correia on her Honors senior thesis. Her thesis focuses on some of the relationships between disordered eating and alcohol use. After graduation in December 2009, Brittani hopes to attend graduate school to earn her Ph.D in clinical psychology; she wants to specialize in eating disorders.

 

 

 VP of Programs - Lindsey Rankin is a senior from Hazel Green, Alabama. She is currently working in Dr. Mattson's Marriage and Family Relationship lab.  During the 2007-2008 academic year, Lindsey participated in the Head Start program under Dr. Shapiro where she worked with developmentally delayed children.  She also participated in a Service-Based Learning project at Morningside Assited Living working with elderly residents.  Upon graduating in 2009, Lindsey plans to attend either graduate school in psychology or law school.  

VP of Membership - Laura Coursen is a senior from Dayton, Ohio. Upon her graduation in May 2010, she plans to attend graduate school to obtain a PhD in developmental psychology. Laura currently works in Dr. Escobar's learning lab, Dr. Knight's coding lab, and Dr. Mattson's relationship lab. She is also completing an honors thesis with Dr. Knight. She is interested in the moral development of children.


VP of Fundraising - Nadia Bhuiyan is a junior from Auburn, Alabama. She is currently studying Psychology and Biomedical Sciences. After graduating from Auburn University, she plans to attend graduate school in the area of Clinical Psychology. She is an undergraduate researcher in Dr. Elizabeth Brestan Knight’s Parent-Child Interaction Lab, and plans to work with Dr. Knight on her Honors senior thesis.

VP of Public Relations -Kristen Hiott is a junior from Marietta, Georgia. She is currently working in Dr. Mattson's Marriage and Family Relationship Lab, and in Dr. Brestan Knight's Parent-Child Interaction Lab helping one of her graduate students with their dissertation. She is also a member of the psychology team at Head Start under Dr. Shapiro where she works with developmentally delayed children. After graduation in May 2010, Kristen hopes to attend graduate school to earn her Ph.D in clinical psychology specializing in pediatric psychology. Her research interests are adherence to medication, how youth and their families cope with chronic illness, and ADHD in youth.

Secretary - Sarah Teague is a senior from Birmingham, Alabama. She is currently working in a few different labs. She is working on Change Blindness in Specific Phobias in Dr. McGlynn’s lab, Work-Family Stress in Dr. Mitchelson’s lab, and Faking Behavior on Personality Inventories in Dr. Thomas’s lab. She will be applying to Industrial/Organizational doctoral programs in the fall and hopes to further investigate selection/testing, performance appraisal, employee retention, and work-family stress.


Treasurer -Emerald Minor is a junior from Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She is currently working in Dr. Knight's Parent-Child Interaction Lab and Dr. Gillis' Autism Lab. She also works at the Little Tree Learning Center teaching preschoolers with autism spectrum disorders. After graduation in December 2009, Emerald hopes to attend graduate school to earn her Ph.D in clinical psychology; she wants to specialize in autism spectrum disorders, with specialization in applied behavior analysis.

Webmaster - Thomas Huggins is a junior from Auburn, Alabama. He is currently working in Dr. Franco-Watkins MAD Cognitive Lab. After graduating in May 2010, he plans on taking a year off before attending graduate school. His interests in psychology include the development and functionality of language in human and non-human primates, neuropsychology, and cognitive areas, such as human-computer interactions and haptic interfaces. He also works in the Psychology Department as a student worker.

 

2008-2009 Faculty Advisor - Dr. Martha Escobar received her Ph.D. in Cognitive and Behavioral Sciences from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Binghamton, under the supervision of Dr. Ralph R. Miller. Prior to attending SUNY-Binghamton, she obtained a B.A. from the University of Deusto (Spain), under the supervision of Dr. Helena Matute. She joined Auburn University’s Department of Psychology as an assistant professor in 2002. At Auburn, she is the director of the Animal Learning and the Human Learning and Memory laboratories. Her research primarily investigates basic learning and memory processes in human and nonhuman animals, including comparative research among rodents and humans.
