The PVMA focuses on increasing students' knowledge in animal science, zoology, and veterinary medicine. Professors and veterinarians are common guest lecturers who visit with the group to give presentations on personal experiences and topics of interest. To help prepare members for vet school, visits from an admissions board representative to review the application, interview and admission process as well as several tours of the College of Veterinary Medicine are arranged.

Service projects involving the Lee County Humane Society are organized by the PVMA, and include medical rounds and surveillance, dog training, Woofstock and other fundraisers. Besides gaining experience through service projects, members have the opportunity to socialize with students that share common interests during club events. Periodically, social events are planned and have included dinner and movie nights, picnics at Chewacla, bowlings, and more.
