Service

Pi Kappa Phi is the only fraternity to operate its own national philanthropy, known as PUSH America.   This philanthropy, through various different methods, works hard at bettering the lives of people with disabilities all across the country.   The Alpha Iota Chapter here at Auburn University is know different in working for the three pillars of PUSH America, fundraising, volunteerism, and awareness.

  • Fund raising:   In our history we have raised thousands of dollars for PUSH America, averaging an annual amount between $2000 and $2500.   We do this through several functions, in both the fall and spring semesters.   One of these functions is Push Buckets, where we travel from one tailgate spot to the next each home football game asking for donations from fellow Auburn fans for PUSH. Another event is the annual Moonball volleyball tournament where we pair up with a sorority and host a volleyball tournament at the fraternity house. And last, but not least, we hold an annual Push-a-thon. For 48 hours straight all throughout the day and night the brothers of Alpha Iota push a wheelchair all over Auburn's campus talking with fellow students and teachers about what PUSH is and the things they do. Through these projects we raise money to provide PUSH America with the means to help people with disabilities throughout the region.

  • Push AmericaVolunteerism:   PUSH America operates numerous national projects during which Pi Kapps from all across the nation come together and work on camps, parks, and other public facilities all to make them better for people with disabilities.   Such events include Give-A-Push Weekend, PUSH Camp, Journey of Hope, Gear Up Florida, AccessABILITY, Build America, and others. Our own chapter has had numerous brother attend these events.

  • Awareness:   This is perhaps one of the most important aspects of PUSH America.   You could raise all the money in the world, or build all the ramps, but if you don't make the public aware of what they can do, or that people with disabilities are no different than you or I, we accomplish nothing.   We work just as hard at our fund raising events and our volunteer projects to make sure that we get our message out to the public through fliers, newspapers, or even word of mouth.

Through these three pillars Pi Kappa Phi works hard to help make the day to day life easier and more comfortable for people with disabilities all across the country.
