Take a Picture of your Desktop! (Mac version)

This tutorial will help you get a graphic for a website or presentation from (almost) any document or window you can view on your computer.

Step 1. Choose what you want – is it a chart you have constructed or maybe a toolbar or palette from an application you would like to teach your students how to use …

Step 2. Get the cursor or Ibar away from the area you would like to capture.

Step 3. Hold down the shift + + 3 ALL at the same time. You should hear a camera shutter-like sound.

Step 4. Open your harddrive and find the Picture 1 file. That is the picture you just took J Double click on it.

Step 5. You will see a crosshairs or + Position the + in the upper left hand corner of the are you wish to save, then drag to the lower right hand corner, and release. We call these moving dashes "marching ants." If you need to resize just click outside of the ants and start step 5 again. To copy this area you may use the shortcut + c, or you may drag down from Edit > Copy.

Now… if you wish to insert into a Word document go to Step 6

Step 6. Click on the document into which you would like to insert the image, and use the paste shortcut + v, or you may drag down from Edit > Paste.

PowerPoint - You can do just like Word.

NetscapeComposer – Insert like in Step 6, but you will have to rename your image after you paste – BE SURE to end your image in .jpg – EX. horse.jpg and be sure to put it in the folder with your webpage.
