Maria Baugh MARIA BAUGH
Maria Baugh is the managing editor of House & Garden magazine, a position she has held since March of this year. Maria was the executive editor of In Style magazine from March 2002 until August 2005. She came to In Style from Teen People, where her longstanding and unapologetic devotion to MTV and bad teen flicks served her well. After joining the launch team of Teen People in 1997 as deputy editor, she was tapped for the executive editor role in 2001. One of the fastest growing startups in publishing history, Teen People was awarded the National Magazine Award for General Excellence in 2001.

After her 1987 graduation from Auburn University, Maria worked at the Covington News in Covington, Georgia. Since her move to New York in 1988, she ascended the New York journalism ladder, serving as art assistant and then assistant photo editor at Working Woman before beginning a four-and-a-half-year march from assistant copy editor to managing editor at Child, and then moving on to YM, as managing editor.

Maria is also an adjunct professor of journalism at New York University.

Susan Parker

SUSAN PARKER
The “Susan Parker Story”, as it was called, was told throughout Alabama during 2002 as she campaigned as the first woman ever nominated by either party in Alabama for the U. S. Senate.  People were inspired by the television commercials showing Susan in the cotton field where she learned the lessons of hard work and determination.  Susan’s humble beginnings on a small farm in Eva, Alabama, her rise from being engaged at 14, married at 17 and living in a mobile home, to being elected as State Auditor of the State of Alabama were an inspiration to many.  She told about working full time during the day and attending night school for thirteen years to earn four college degrees including a PhD. in Administration of Higher Education and about her desire to give back to others the many opportunities she had been given.

Prior to becoming State Auditor, Dr. Parker worked for twenty-five years in higher education, where she earned accolades for her fundraising leadership as Development Officer at Athens State University and her many achievements as Public Relations office for Calhoun State Community College.  Her work there and her hundreds of hours of community service earned her the prestigious, “Ten Outstanding Young Americans Award” by the U. S. Jaycees.

Currently, Dr. Parker is seeking the office of Public Service Commissioner, a statewide office, which regulates utilities in Alabama.
