College-Level Class
Campers will attend college-level classes in various departments. These classes, taught by AU faculty, have been tailored to provide campers with a general introduction to the topics they will discuss during the daily United Nations sessions (for topics – see next section below). |
DAILY SCHEDULE
Each day, the World Affairs Youth Seminar schedule will include activities such as the following:
Special Presentations
Campers will experience special presentations in the form of videos, field trips, guest speakers, etc. Presentations are intended to provide the campers with a context in which to better understand the world issues being discussed.
Review Period
Graduate Students from Auburn University's College of Education will spend part of each day helping campers to make connections between what they learn in the classes, special presentations, etc.
Strategic Planning/Research
Under the guidance of graduate student coaches, teams of campers will construct proposals to discuss during Model United Nations sessions. The coaches will help campers to form an opinion/proposal regarding a daily discussion topic/issue, and will help them construct and support their ideas through research.
Model United Nations Session
Led by the Auburn University Mock United Nations Club Secretary General, daily model United Nations sessions will provide campers with a way to synthesize and apply all that they have learned through classes, presentations, and research on various global issues. Pairs of campers will be assigned roles as United Nations delegates from selected countries; they will use their delegate status to share and debate proposals for the solution of world problems.
Fun Activity
No college experience would be complete without a little fun. This summer camp includes all kinds of fun activities such as swimming, outdoor games, ice cream socials, a pizza party, dancing, board games, outdoor movies, etc.
The program is carefully structured. Students should expect a VERY busy week.
