WHAT PARTICIPANTS CAN EXPECT
Campers are invited to approach the camp as a week-long opportunity to experience college first-hand. They will live in the residence halls with other campers; eat at campus Cafeterias; attend college-level classes, and participate in extracurricular activities. They will also investigate other aspects of college through visits to other campus venues such as museums, raptor centers, aquatic center, arboretum, etc. There will be many opportunities to make friends and have fun! |
| The World Affairs Youth Seminar is a highly structured camp, jam-packed with opportunities for education and fun. Each day of the camp, students can expect to confront a different topic or area of world interest (such as the depletion of natural crude oil resources, the possibility of impending civil war in Iraq, regulation of international trade, etc.). Throughout the camp, participants are given the opportunity to synthesize information obtained from attending classes, hearing field reports from speakers on special topics, and conducting personal and/or collaborative research. They will be expected to use this information in debates with their fellow campers within the framework of Model United Nations sessions where participants role play as delegates from various countries. Through its unique coupling of education and extracurricular activities, the World Affairs Youth Seminar can be considered a “mini-mester” college experience for high school students. |
